Criminals don't follow the rules, whether it's America or not. If the American citizens were to turn in all guns, the criminals wouldn't and so if someone's house was broken into with the residents still inside, the crooks would have their guns, and the poor hostages would be unarmed and very well dead.
Your logic makes sense, however, it goes along the lines of “people will still use guns illegally anyway” type argument.
To that, I ask you this. Why don’t we legalize heroin or meth if people still use them illegally anyway? Just because bad people get their hands on shit they shouldn’t, doesn’t mean we should give up trying to stop them in the fist place.
